These projects are supported through various sources, one of which is "Rachel".

it's Pigs on Parade fund raiser upon Zurich, Switzerland's 1998 public art project, choosing "Rachel" as a model rather than Zurich's cow. The Market Foundation contacted sculpture Georgia Gerber, the artist that created "Rachel", to design a pair of pigs and cast a litter for Rachel. These are the models from which the fiberglass "Pigs on Parade" were created.

150 regional artists were asked to submit designs for the decoration of the pigs. Sponsors were rounded up and the party began. On May 26, 2001 the pigs were paraded from their corral in the Pike Place Market, see photo below, to Westlake to the delight of thousands of folk. After the viewing they were then scattered though out the Seattle area for public viewing untill auction time. In October the pigs were auctioned off with the proceeds going to Pike Place Market Foundation. |
