Welcome to Public Artwork of Puget Sound A digital tour of Puget Sound When my wife and I first moved to Seattle we were surprised by the amount of artwork that was freely available. We soon found that the whole of Puget Sound had numerous pieces of art that was available to the walking public; sculpture, water fountains, decorative wall art, side walk treatments, etc. I began photographing this art for my own use, but have been convinced by my kids to develop a web site, so here it is. To locate the pieces shown on this site, I used the Seattle Art Commissions publications and web site and just walking around the various cities we have visited in the region. The site is a series of maps with red dots locating the various pieces of artwork within a city. When your mouse passes over a dot, a thumbnail pops up. If you click on the thumbnail, you will be taken to a full page photo for your perusal. There are some large multi-piece sculptures that can't show detail. These sculptures are mapped to allow the viewer to look at the details close up by clicking on the area where the mouse changes to a pointy finger. Just right click when you see a pointing finger. With several hundred pieces to show, I felt something other than a hyper-linked list should be developed. There is a listing of artists that will take you directly to the works of the various artists. If an artist has more than 1 piece the name will be linked to a page showing thumbnails of all of the peices done by that artist. By clicking on a thumbnail you will be taken to the artwork page. With time pieces of art are relocated or as in exhibitions sold or returned to the artists. These pieces are so noted upon my discovery of the loss. Some Technical notes. I have elected to use images that are mostly 800 pixels wide and varying length, which can be accommodated by most systems. These images have been saved in low JPEG to help reduce download times. Still there are some images, maps in particular, that can take a while to download. If you have any questions or comments contact me at terry134@cablespeed.com Enjoy your trip throughout Puget Sound. For additions and changes, New additions will direct you to them. |
